If you haven’t been able to stick with your workout schedules don’t fret since studies show that 50 percent of people drop out of their exercise program within 6 months. Here are a few ideas to help avoid that “slack-off” and eventual withdrawal from the beneficial values of a good exercise program.

1) Set short term goals. Set goals in weeks rather than months or years.
2) Recruit a workout partner. A partner can keep you accountable, as well as make a workout more of a social occasion.
3) Be realistic. Unrealistic expectations can discourage you. Exercise can make you feel better, but it won’t change your overall body type or make you look like an abs-machine model.
4) Count backward. Counting backwards when exercising gives a more positive feeling of how few you have left instead of how many you’ve done.
5) Pick a slot. It’s easier to pick a specific time slot each day rather than depending on “Whenever”.
6) Take it easy. High intensity programs have high drop out ratios. Be consistent it doesn’t have to wear you out.
7) Entertain yourself. Read a newspaper on the exercise bike, watch TV, or listen to tapes.
8) Set a 20-minute rule. Even if you only work up a light sweat, it’s enough.
9) Vary the program. Exercising harder one day and easier the next is OK. Also change the types of exercise you do.

The Facts
of Light
• The term, "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye" is from Ancient Rome. The only rule during wrestling matches was, "No eye gouging." Everything else was allowed, but the only way to be disqualified is to poke someone's eye out.

• A 'jiffy' is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second.

• Most of the little schoolhouses in the U.S. of yesteryear were painted red because red was the least expensive paint color.

• A flamingo can eat only when its head is upside down.

• Dalmatian dogs are born pure white, they don't start getting spots until they are three or four days old.

Choosing the Right
Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

Compact fluorescent light bulbs have come a long ways in both quality and variety since they were first introduced. Gone are the days of poor lighting quality and limited styles. Nowadays, compact fluorescent light bulbs come in the same styles as the most popular incandescent bulbs and the quality of the light is just as good, if not better than incandescents. However, buying a compact fluorescent light bulb can be slightly more complicated than buying an incandescent. Here are the things you need to look out for:

Light Output - Wattage - Color Temperature

Light Output -- It can be very confusing as to which compact fluorescent light bulbs will replace which incandescents. It’s less about trying to figure out how many watts a bulb uses, and more about the light output, or lumens generated by the bulb. Here is a table that summarizes the Energy Star requirements for compact fluorescent light bulb:

Incandescent
Watts
Minimum Light
Output (lumens)
Compact Fluorescent
Watt Ranges
40
450
9-13
60
800
13-15
75
1100
18-25
100
1600
23-30
150
2600
30-52
Incandescent Lamp
Compact Fluorescent Lamp

Color Temperature -- The color temperature of a light bulb can best be described as how the light compares to “natural” sunlight. Outdoor sunlight has a color temperature of around 5,500K. Bulbs with a higher color temperature (closer to 5,000K) will produce light that is more “cool” or blue. Bulbs with a lower color temperature will produce light that is more “warm” or yellow. The color temperature of a light bulb is usually described by how “white” a bulb is, like soft white, bright white, etc.

Description
Color Temperature
“Warm white” or “Soft white”
less then 2700 K
“White”, “Bright White” or “Medium White”
2900 - 3000 K
“Cool White”
4000 K
“Daylight”
greater than 5000K

Choosing the correct color temperature is just as important as choosing the correct wattage, as it has a direct affect on quality of the light, so be sure to pay attention to this when making your purchase and if you have any questions please contact us.

Lighting Basics -
Bulb Types

Kissing Under the Mistletoe

Incandescent - These are what most people consider standard light bulbs. They are commonly found in homes and offices. However, the average lifespan of an incandescent bulb is only 750 hours and it’s not very efficient – up to 85% of the energy it uses is turned into heat rather than light.

Incandescent Light Bulbs

Fluorescent - Fluorescent lamps are popular choices for many businesses. They are up to 75% more efficient than incandescent bulbs, emit less heat and last up to 20,000 hours.

Fluorescent Tube Light Bulbs

Compact Fluorescent Bulbs - These bulbs combine fluorescent efficiency with incandescent convenience. They last about 10,000 hours.

Fluorescent Tube Light Bulbs

High Intensity Discharge (HIDs) These lights are best suited for warehouses and outdoor applications. Three kinds of HID lamps are high-pressure sodium lamps, metal halide lamps and mercury vapor lamps, which range in life from 10,000 to 24,000 hours.

Fluorescent Tube Light Bulbs

Kissing under the mistletoe at Christmas is not a new tradition. In fact, you can trace its roots all the way back to medieval times.

Mistletoe

Mistletoe has enjoyed a long history of association with health and strength. According to one theory, the English began hanging mistletoe in doorways as a sign of peace. When people would pass under the doorway, they would exchange a friendly kiss.
As mistletoe began becoming more associated with the Christmas holiday, the English started making a game of kissing under the mistletoe. Young women were supposed to be kissed under the mistletoe during the Christmas season if they wanted to be married the next year.
Americans took longer to accept kissing under the mistletoe. But as more British immigrants came to America, they brought their mistletoe custom with them. And after all, who wouldn’t take to such a friendly and sometimes romantic custom?
